Una cartolina d'epoca ritrae Sasso Caveoso, Matera. La fotografia diventa contemporanea. Attraverso un'applicazione per smartphone, inquadrandola, si materializza un essere astratto. Proviene da un altro pianeta? E il frutto di una mutazione genetica?
"Nel cuore della Provincia di Potenza, dove nel 1989 si scoprì l'oro nero del più grande giacimento terrestre made in Europa [...] si pompa greggio a ritmo di 85mila barili al giorno, grazie a 39 pozzi [...]. La piccola Basilicata (appena 575 mila abitanti) copre l’8 per cento del fabbisogno nazionale, ma è fanalino di coda italiano per disoccupazione e sviluppo."
"L’associazione “Medici per l'ambiente” e i report Istat raccontano un quadro della salute capovolto: tra il 2011 e il 2014 il tasso di mortalità è cresciuto del 2 per cento, nello stesso periodo a Corleto Perticara (meno di 3mila abitanti e a due passi dal centro Tempa Rossa) è aumentato del 23 per cento. Secondo l’Istat, fra il 2006 e il 2013 il tasso di mortalità per malattie dell’apparato respiratorio è salito del 14 per cento in tutto il Paese, schizzando invece al 29 nelle due province lucane, pur avendo una produzione industriale minima.
Un ultimo dato racconta una regione incontaminata, ma pericolosa: nella provincia di Potenza il tasso di ospedalizzazione per tumore maligno nei maschi (tra 0 a 14 anni) è cresciuto del 48 per cento fra il 2011 e il 2014."

A vintage postcard portrays Sasso Caveoso, Matera. Photography becomes contemporary. Through a smartphone app, framing it, an abstract being materializes. Does it come from another planet? Is it the fruit of a genetic mutation?
The work wants to pay attention to the exponential growth of pathological phenomena that is affecting the region of Basilicata.
"In the heart of the Province of Potenza, where in 1989 it was discovered the black gold of the largest terrestrial field made in Europe [...] is crude pumped at the rate of 85 thousand barrels per day, thanks to 39 wells [...] "The small Basilicata (barely 575 thousand inhabitants) covers 8 percent of the national requirement, but is the Italian bottom for unemployment and development."
"The association "Medici per l'ambiente" and the Istat reports tell a picture of upside-down health: between 2011 and 2014 the mortality rate grew by 2 percent, in the same period to Corleto Perticara (less than 3 thousand inhabitants and to two steps from the Tempa Rossa center) it increased by 23 per cent. According to Istat, between 2006 and 2013 the mortality rate for respiratory diseases rose by 14 per cent throughout the country, jumping at 29 in the two provinces of Basilicata, despite having a minimal industrial production.
A final fact tells of a pristine but dangerous region: in the province of Potenza the rate of hospitalization for malignant tumors in males (between 0 and 14 years) grew by 48 percent between 2011 and 2014. "
